The Hawaiian state Senate on May 6 overwhelmingly proclaimed September 24, 2009 "Islam Day." According to an Associated Press story in The Honolulu Advertiser, " The resolution to proclaim Sept. 24, 2009, as Islam Day passed the Senate yesterday on a 22-3 vote."According to the piece, Republicans stated that it is important that all religions not forget about the terrorist attacks of September 11 while Democrats said that "the diversity and positive contributions of the Islamic world should be honored."
